Lent is a season for looking into our hearts,
acknowledging our sins and asking for God's mercy.
And the end of every day
it's good to look back in just this way...
Jesus, forgive me tonight
the sins of this day:
Forgive the sins that I don't remember,
the sins that I've forgotten…Forgive any wrong I did to othersand the good I failed to accomplish…
Forgive my weakness when I was temptedand the times I was stubborn when faced with correction…Forgive my pride in my own achievements
and my failing to praise your wonderful works…
Forgive the harsh judgements I made of others
and the generous leniency I granted myself…Forgive the lies and fibs I toldand the times I didn't tell the whole truth...Forgive the pain I caused my neighbor
and how I indulged my own desires...
Heal and forgive me and help me, Lord,
to pardon others as you pardon me…
Have mercy on me, a sinner, Lord,
and cleanse me of all my sins…
Protect me, Lord,
while I'm awake
and watch over me
while I sleep
that awake, I might
keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in
your peace…
Amen.
