I wrote this prayer 7 years ago but would like to share it with you again on this Mothers Day...
I was grocery shopping, Lord,
and thought to buy some flowers
for my prayer room
for my prayer room
when I saw this African violet
which put me in mind
of my mother's beautiful plants
on windowsills all 'round our home
which put me in mind
of her care for them
which put me in mind
of her care for them
which put me in mind
of how faithfully,
lovingly, gently
my mother cared
for me...
So I bought that African violet, Lord,
at $3.49, neither costly nor rare
but dear to me for the memories
sweet, soft and alive
in those delicate, violet blooms...
Help me care for this beautiful plant, Lord,
as my mother cared for me:
faithfully, tenderly, gently,
day by day by day,
and help me care for others
and help me care for others
with the care she tendered me...
Waken more memories like this one, Lord,
to touch, heal and refresh my heart:
memories that bring me to you in prayer
memories that bring me to you in prayer
and put me in mind of my blessings
- may I never forget even one...
- may I never forget even one...
Amen.
