NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 5/16

This coming weekend we will celebrate Pentecost Sunday and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Let's take this opportunity to prepare for Pentecost by praying for how we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives...

 

I need the gifts of your Spirit, Lord,

and here's how I need them...

 

I need the Spirit's gift of WISDOM

    to help me know what's real, true, genuine

and in my own life I especially need your wisdom 

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of UNDERSTANDING, Lord,

    to faithfully follow what faith reveals

        and where it leads me,

and in my own life I especially need understanding

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of RIGHT JUDGMENT, Lord,

    and the counsel and prudence necessary

        to live what you help me judge to be true

and in my own life I especially need right judgment

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of COURAGE, Lord,

    to embolden me to do what's right and just and pure

        in all my words and deeds

and in my own life I especially need courage

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of KNOWLEDGE, Lord,

    to reveal and disclose your plans for my life

        and how you'd have me use my gifts and talents

and in my own life I especially need knowledge

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of REVERENCE, Lord,

    to help me faithfully bend my mind and heart to you

        in worship and in prayer

and in my own life I especially need reverence

    in these situations

I need the Spirit's gift of AWE and WONDER in your presence

    to open my heart in humility

        before your majesty, power and glory

and in my own life I especially need right judgment

    in these situations

I need all the gifts of your Spirit, Lord,   

    and I need them in so very many ways:

be generous in the gifts you offer me

    and give me the grace to open and use them well...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...
