On Sundays, Night Prayer will draw its inspiration from some element of the day's liturgy. The readings at mass today called us to recognize our need for God's mercy and for patience in waiting for God's healing. Today's Psalm (130) beautifully draws all of this together...
There are times, Lord,
when I'm sad and discouraged,
when I feel like I'm wasting away...
There are times when my troubles and problems,
my confusion, grief and worry
seem ready to get the best of me...
It's then that I pray
from the depths of my soul
for your mercy, your pardon and healing...
It's then that I wait
for your unfailing grace
to reach out and strengthen my faith...
It's then that I pray
for the patience I need
to wait for the dawn of a new beginning...
My soul is waiting for you, O Lord,
waiting for you to show me your face
and lift me up in your arms...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

My soul waits more than watchmen wait for the morn’
More than watchmen wait for the morning
From the depths I cry to you Lord
From the depths let your ears hear my voice cry for mercy
Let your ears hear my voice cry for mercy
Just as the sun falls down
Your unfailing love will be found
Just as the sun does rise
Your mercy will answer my cries
More than the watchmen wait
I’ll wait for you
My soul waits, waits for the Lord
My soul waits more than watchmen wait for the morn’
More than watchmen wait for the morning
Who could stand, stand in your presence
Without your love, your love and forgiveness
Oh I’m lost without love and forgiveness
Just as the sun falls down
Your unfailing love will be found
Just as the sun does rise
Your mercy will answer my cries
More than the watchmen wait
I’ll wait for you
Just as the sun falls down
Your unfailing love will be found
Just as the sun does rise, your mercy will answer my cries
More than the watchmen wait
I will wait
More than the watchmen wait
I’ll wait for you
