NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 7/9

Sometimes, I forget, Lord...

    Sometimes I forget and I worry for nothing,
        for nothing is all that worry can do...

    Sometimes I forget how this day's fear
        can be tamed by a good night's sleep...

    Sometimes I forget - and somehow survive -
       one of last week's unsolvable problems...

    Sometimes I forget that you're with me always
       that I'm absolutely never, ever, alone...

    Sometimes I forget that with you by my side
        there's nothing together that we can't face...

    Sometimes I forget, Lord, that all shall be well,
        that all manner of things shall be well;
    and I often forget this (again and again)
        so help me remember your grace, O Lord,
            help me remember your love...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
    and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

All shall be well.  All shall be well,
and all manner of thing,*
all manner of thing shall be well.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains;
from where shall come my help?
My help will come from God,
my creator, from God who made heaven and earth.

God will keep your feet from stumbling
and guard you as you rest;
for God never slumbers nor sleeps.
God is with you by day and by night.

For God will always guard you from evil
and keep your soul from harm;
and God will guard your coming and going,
both now and forever more.

*The refrain is a well known, much loved quote from
Julian of Norwich who died in the early 15th century.
In the language of her time "All manner of thing" was
an acceptable figure of speech.  If, in our own time,
you prefer to sing "things," go right ahead!
