Meister Eckhart was a 14th century priest, theologian, philosopher and writer. Among many quotable lines from his writings, this one is particularly appropriate for this week:
I'm grateful, Lord,
that my prayer and its vocabulary
exceed this two word sample
but I know this simple prayer sums up
all there is to know
about you and me and our relationship...
All good gifts come from your hand, Lord...
You're the Creator and I'm the creature,
the work of your hands...
Everything I have is on loan to me,
gifts from you, entrusted to my care...
Without you I have nothing,
without you I am nothing,
without you I've no reason to exist...
What, then, Lord, should be my first prayer?
What, then, Lord, should be my daily prayer?
What, then, Lord, should be my nightly prayer?
What, then, Lord, should be my last prayer?
Thank you, Lord my God!
All praise to you from whom all blessings flow!
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
Thank You, Lord by Don Moen
