Something about the "silence" I experience in January's winter days brought to mind a prayer I wrote some years ago. After some rewriting, here's the 2025 version...
Lord,
help me know your holy silence,
your deep silence,
as a gift...
Help me come into your silence
and wait there
in the quiet
for your peace...
Help me find, Lord, in your silence
not absence but fullness,
not absence but fullness,
not a void but substance,
the fullness of your presence...
the fullness of your presence...
Help me trust that in your silence
there I'll find you,
there we'll meet:
Lover and beloved,
in the silence,
where all sound is hushed
and love's the only Word...
In your silence, Lord, I'm naked,
truly who I'm made to be,
for only in your silence
am I truly known and loved...
Help me know you in your silence, Lord,
and learn there
who I am,
In your silence, Lord, I'm naked,
truly who I'm made to be,
for only in your silence
am I truly known and loved...
Help me know you in your silence, Lord,
and learn there
who I am,
how much I'm loved, forgiven,
and who I'm called to be...
and who I'm called to be...
Amen.
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
that makes it one of my favorites...
Psalm 33: In the silent hours of night

In the silent hours of night
bless the Lord.
O come bless the Lord,
O come bless the Lord,
all you who serve the Lord,
who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
Lift up your hands to the holy place
and bless the Lord through the night.
May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made both heaven and earth.
who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
Lift up your hands to the holy place
and bless the Lord through the night.
May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made both heaven and earth.
