The last day of January:
glory, praise to you, O Lord!
Though February and March still stand
twixt me and April and Easter,
the very thought of this month's end
lifts my spirits and quickens my hope
that spring is on the way
when earth will soften to welcome jonquils,
when trees will bud
with promise of leaves and shade
and the warmth of gentler days
will brush my cheeks..
Lord of all the seasons:
search that corner in my soul
where dreams are kept,
that pocket in my heart
where seeds of hope are stored
for just this time of year,
where dreams are kept,
that pocket in my heart
where seeds of hope are stored
for just this time of year,
when days are frosted gray
and there's still a ways to go
and there's still a ways to go
before I walk on grass again...
Oh, and for the record, Lord:
I acknowledge winter's beauty,
all its find and splendid gifts
- but my heart's still set on what's to come
once winter bids adieu...
Amen.
