This morning, Lord,
we pray, we plead:
for justice to supersede revenge,
for the truth to outshine all our lies,
for fairness to outstrip partiality,
for generosity to triumph over selfishness,
for benevolence to set aside unkindness,
for humility to overcome our arrogance,
for accountability to challenge every privilege,
for patience to stall our reckless choices,
for counsel to inform and shape our thinking,
for courage to speak truth to power,
for wisdom to overrule our foolishness,
for grace to anoint and change our hearts
and for your word and your will to make us one...
This is what we pray, Lord,
this is what we plead:
in you, our God, we trust...
Amen.

ReplyDeletePlease refrain from political commentary; it lessens the spiritual impact
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment but I will write and post what I choose to write and post. You, of course, have the choice to read and pray what you choose to read and pray. I try to assiduously avoid political commentary. However, the gospel addresses every aspect of our lives including the political and whatever the gospel addresses is worthy - even demanding - of our prayer. In addition, given the general political landscape in our nation, this prayer would be appropriate regardless of partisan considerations.
