NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 2/10

There are some days, Lord,

    when it seems you and I are working together

in a harmony as close as might be achieved

    when your divinity mixes with my humanity...

 

Of course, your divinity is always mixing

    with my broken, wounded human nature

and, truth be told, it's only your divinity

    that lifts my stumbling human efforts 

to anything near what's beautiful,

    whole, pure and peaceable...

 

And today was one of those days, Lord,

a day when I found myself in sync with you:

    open to you and your Spirit's grace, 

    trusting your hand to guard and guide me,

    surrendering in trust, taking your lead,

    yielding to you and your wisdom and word,

    waiting to see what you might make

    of my simple words and my modest deeds...

 

I'm grateful for this prayerful day

and for all the ways you made of it

    a time of grace, 

    a font of peace, 

    a healing gift, 

a blessing come from you, Lord,

    in spite of all my clumsiness,

    regardless of my ego,

    notwithstanding my resistance

        and my inept interference...

 

When your wisdom finds a way, Lord,

    to use my wounded, broken self

        to heal the brokenhearted

I offer you my thanks and praise

    for grace that makes as one

        all that's human and divine... 

     

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...
