NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 3/22

Let's begin our prayer with his piece by John O'Donohue:
For A New Beginning

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

 Some questions to move us to prayer...

• Where are those "out of the way places in my heart, Lord - places I might not regularly think to explore?

• And what have you been doing in those places, how have you been moving there, what do you have in store for me?

• Why is it, Lord, that I sometimes find it difficult to let go some things (people, possessions, habits) that I know I've outgrown?  Why do I hang on to what I need to let go?  want to let go?

• Haven't I known in the past what peace there is (even joy) in letting go
what no longer serves me well?  Help me remember such peace and lead me to desire it once again...

• Am I afraid of where I'll be, where I'll land if I let go?  Give me courage, Lord, and trust that you will be there with me and for me...

• I know you have more in store for me, Lord.  I know that what I have now is not "all there is."  I know you're moving in those places in my heart that I don't often visit: help me long for you and for your healing, grace and blessings...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
    and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

Tonight's song might bring us back to those "out-of-the-way places of the heart,
where our thoughts never think to wander..."

Better is a moment that I spend with You
Than a million other days awayI'm running, I'm runningI'm running to the secret place

Where will you run, my soulWhere will you go when wells run dry When the wind starts to blowHow you gonna keep this flame alive

In the fading light when night is breakingI know You will always be waitingYou'll always be there
 I'm running to the secret place
Where You are, where You areI sing to You of all the waysYou stole my heart, stole my heartBetter is a moment that I spend with You
Than a million other days awayI'm running, I'm runningI'm running to the secret place
 You are my only hopeYou are the Rock on which I stand
You will not let me goI know that I'm safe inside Your hands
 In the fading light when night is breakingI know You will always be waitingYou'll always be there
 I'm running to the secret place
Where You are, where You areI sing to You of all the waysYou stole my heart, stole my heartBetter is a moment that I spend with You
Than a million other days awayI'm running, I'm runningI'm running to the secret place
 Hands are lifted high, hearts awake to life
We are satisfied here with You, Chains will hit the floor,
    broken lives restoredWe couldn't ask for more here with You
 I'm running to the secret placeWhere You are, where You are
I sing to You of all the waysYou stole my heart, stole my heartBetter is a moment that I spend with YouThan a million other days awayI'm running, I'm runningI'm running to the secret place
