On Sundays, Night Prayer will focus on an element from the day's celebration of Mass. Tonight we reflect on the scene in the first reading where God is revealed to Moses in the burning bush.
Holy is the ground, Lord,
anywhere on earth,
where you reveal yourself
and your people know your presence...

and I meet you in prayer...

where the human and divine
come together in one place...
Holy ground
might be on a mountain top
or by the water's edge;
it might be in the forest,
a cathedral made of pines...
Holy ground
might be on the subway,
the expressway or a runway;
it might be in the silence
or the sounds of city traffic...
Holy ground
might be on a front porch,
in bed or at a table;
it might be in a hospital,
a nursing home or psych ward...
Holy ground
might be in the desert
or along a country road;
it might be in the sunshine,
in the rain or in the snow...
Holy ground
might be in a chapel,
a basilica or church;
it might be in a graveyard,
all quiet, hushed and still...
Holy ground
might be in my room alone,
or in a group of friends;
it might in the noon day sun
or in the dark of night...
Holy ground
is anywhere where you are, Lord,
and since you're everywhere,
everywhere is holy ground,
anywhere and everywhere
where I might come and go...
Take some time this evening
to remember the times, places
and circumstances
where you've encountered the Lord
and found yourself on holy ground...
Spend some time treasuring those memories
and thanking God for them
and in the remembering
may you find yourself again on holy ground...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace..
