NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 3/27

Thus says the LORD:
If you remove from your midst oppression,

false accusation and malicious speech...
then light shall rise for you in the darkness...

  -Isaiah 58

No doubt about it, Lord,
my heart too often harbors ill will:
a place where harsh judgments dock
        and angry words float freely,
            riding dark waves of envy;
    a harbor clouded and choked
        with the dregs of grudges
a cold cove it is, craving warmth
and a sea change of grace...

Rescue me from this shipwreck, Lord!

Help me unload
my heart's hold of words and wishes,
Sweeten the stale waters
    where my soul sails
and fill me with a cargo of kindness,
such as I seek from others...

Rise like the sun
    over my ship's bow
and with dawn's breaking light
    warm and heal my soul...

I trust you, Lord,
and pray you'll steer me home,
       over waters of grace
    to that haven of peace,
        the harbor of your heart...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

I know the captain of the ship I'm sailing on.
I know the destination that I'm heading for.
And I pray that the wind is at my back,
and the sun is on my face
So I'll see a better land with God's amazing grace.

I'm taking inventory counting up the cost,
And if I keep my eyes on Jesus, I won't get lost.
And I pray that captain of my ship
    will calm the raging seas.
And lead me to a land where I can truly be free.

There's got to be a better place
where my heart can be at rest.
As we ride on the wings of love;
    all nations will be blest.
There's got to be a better hope
when I come to the end of my quest,
and I can lay my head
    where peaceful waters flow.

My captain says He loves me just the way I am
He'll take me where the lions lay down with the lambs
There's a light that shines from the lighthouse
that guides me along my way
Where I'll see a better land
where I'll be free some day.

There's got to be a better place
where my heart can be at rest.
As we ride on the wings of love;
    all nations will be blest.
There's got to be a better hope
when I come to the end of my quest,
And I can lay my head
    where peaceful waters flow.

That land is not so far from here
I shouldn't have to live my life in fear
I'm out here all alone
I'm a stranger in my home
Gotta be a better place
