When I was working on yesterday's Night Prayer, I wanted an image of someone yoked to Jesus to illustrate the prayer's theme. The only images I could find online were cartoon art and just not a good fit for my purposes.
I wondered then if AI could be of assistance...
I went to Chatpgpt and requested an image of a man yoked to Jesus - and voila, I had one! I then requested an image of a woman yoked to Jesus but this one came back with the figure of Jesus in a red cape and crowned by a halo. I asked for the same image minus the robe and halo - and there it was! Both images now appear in last night's post.
In preparing this post, I asked AI for an image combining Chatgpt's logo and Concord Pastor - and that's what you see above.
The speed at which these images are prepared - and then edited at my request - is simply amazing! And a little bit scary!
I'd be happy to read any response you have to this.
I suppose if one asked a generative AI for a prayer it might babble on as the pagans do, multiplying words for each prompt. But it would simply move on to the next request afterwards without missing a beat. Because it has no beat. There is no connaturality for an AI tool. If something were to break into spontaneous prayer or sing a new song that would be one thing. But so far we can only make them tell us what we want to hear or show us what we want to see. The one major downside, never much spoken about, is the environmental cost. AI queries require immense amounts of power to fuel and cool the acres of server farms they inhabit. Some estimate they use ten to fifteen times the cost of normal search engine queries. They cost us clean water, natural resources, and human labor, all safely hidden behind the curtain. Some humans are using generative AIs for therapy providers and friends. Maybe we can pray for those lost folks during this month of the Sacred Heart. Peace and every good! Don
