Monday Morning Offering: 7/28

Morning Coffee by George Mendoza

Good morning, good God!

Could be, Lord,
that folks have to be 78 years old
before they can look back and see,
as I do now,
how your goodness and kindness
follow us all,
all the days of our lives...

Oh, sure -
    I've seen rough patches,
    I've had disappointments,
    I've been hurt and wounded,
    I've known loss and grief,
I've had doubts, a lot of them,
and times when I've been really
    lost and confused
but through it all, as I look back,
    I see your faithful presence,
    your kindness and compassion,
    your gentle grace and mercy
    dogging my steps,
    following my path,
    right by my side,
holding me in the palm of your hand
    - even and especially -
when I felt like I was in free fall
with no one to catch me
    and no place to land...

How blessed I am, Lord,
to offer you my thanks and praise
for the gift of seeing,
    in my rear view mirror
your faithful and abiding presence
in all the days of my life
and to see,
    perhaps for the first time,
how you were there,
    - even and especially -
when I thought you had forgotten me,
had left me on my own...

I love you, Lord my God,
for your mercy never fails me
and all my life you've held me
gently, in the palm of your hand...

Amen.

Usually, I write a prayer and then look for a song to pair with it - but sometimes, like today, the order reverses.  I came across this wonderful song and it inspired today's Monday Morning Offering...

I love you, Lord
For your mercy never fails me
All my life, I've been held in your hand
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life you have been faithful
All my life you have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I love your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest night
You are close like no other
I've known you as a Father
I've known you as a friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God

All my life you have been faithful
All my life you have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

Your goodness is running after,
   running after me
Your goodness is running after,
  running after me
With my life laid down, I surrender now
I give you everything
Your goodness is running after,
  running after me (2X)

All my life you have been faithful
All my life you have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I'm will sing of the goodness of God
I'm will sing of the goodness of God
