This morning's prayer is inspired by photos of the shore in Truro, MA, taken by my favorite caricaturist, Mark Penta.
In but a few hours' time, Lord,
on the same shoreline canvas,
you paint in nature's hues your glory
in subtle, changing shades and shadows...
New masterpieces all day long
and who knows
how many times each day?
You paint with clouds, water,
wind, grass and sand
and so, I wonder, Lord,
how, with your brush,
are you painting every day
on the canvas of my soul?
And in what hues and tints
are you coloring my being
with artistry divine?
Make me your canvas, Lord,
and give me time to find and trace
your brushstrokes on my soul
lest I miss your grace
painting me, day by day,
in your image and your likeness,
made and and faintly signed
by your gentle Artist's hand...
Amen.
