Pause for Prayer: THURSDAY 8/21

Yesterday I posted a piece with had undeniably political overtones.  A reader on my Facebook page commented, "Please, no politics."  This morning's prayer helped me frame my response...

No doubt about, Lord,
the news these days is filled with
    good and evil,
    sin and grace,
    foolishness and wisdom,
    gated neighborhoods and ghettos,
    life and death,
    war and peace,
    famine and abundance,
    hatefulness and kindness,
    lies and truth,
    right and wrong,
    charity and greed,
    prosperity and poverty,
    mercy and revenge,
    injury and healing,
    justice and inequity,
    gluttony and hunger,
    self-indulgence and unselfishness,
    holiness and sacrilege...

Was it not for all of this, Lord,
that you came to dwell among us?

To reconcile us
to one another and to you?

To announce your Father's mercy
    and the Spirit's sweet anointing?

To herald the good news
that we are loved and called to love
as we've been chosen,
    healed and pardoned?

And to yoke ourselves to you
    for the harvesting of justice,
the labor of your love, Lord,
the work that's now our own...

Amen.
