I prayed for you today...

How often do you tell or write or text someone,
    "I'll pray for you..."

I suppose even that phrase alone is a prayer in itself - at least it's a good intention!  Some folks keep a list of names of folks they're praying for - or they'll write those names on a card and keep it close at hand.  Just to be sure, I often ask the Lord to care for "all those who have asked for my prayers..."

For our prayer this night, let's remember - or try to remember - all those who've asked for our prayers and all those for whom we pray, whether they've asked for our prayers or not.

Lord, tonight I want to say a prayer for...

    family and friends...

    for strangers and passers-by...

    for folks I've forgotten
        who've been a blessing...

    for those who have died
but who live, still, in my heart...

for the sick and the dying
and those who care for them...

for those wait and wait and wait
        - whose waiting never seems to end...

    for anyone I met today
        or will meet come tomorrow...

for folks who annoy and bother me
and for folks bother and annoy...

for those whom I'm at odds with,
        especially politically...

for all who serve and protect me,
        especially those in harms way...

for folks at work, at school, at church
whose names I may not know...

for anyone who's praying for me
        without my evening knowing it...

for those who are far away from me
but close in thought and prayer...

for those I've hurt along the way
        in ways I'm unaware of...

    for anyone who's suffering
        alone, afraid and anxious...

for those whose love I've lost
        through stubborn pride or anger,
be it mine or theirs - or ours...

for those who are so kind to me:
       gentle, thoughtful, caring...

    for those I've disappointed
and for those who've let me down...

and for anyone who needs my prayer:
Lord, hear my prayer for them...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

I just discovered this song and it's one I believe will resonate in the hearts of many...  Here's an idea: you night forward this post with this song to some or all of those for whom you pray today, tonight...

I Prayed for You by Andrew Maycock,

Today I said a prayer for you

I just felt I really needed to

I’m not certain why you’re on my mind

Or why you need my prayers this time

Still I prayed anyway

Today I said a prayer for you

I asked blessings on your heart anew

I prayed that you would somehow feel

my prayers for you as I  kneel

Believing you’ll receive

I prayed for hope, I prayed for peace

I prayed that God’s work in your life

   will never cease

I prayed for joy, I prayed for love

I prayed that he’ll enfold you in his arms

I prayed for you

Today I said a prayer for you

Across the miles or far from view

As the sun rises and falls

He’ll be there through it all

I pray, I pray

Today I said a prayer for you

I prayed that he’d draw close to you

That he’d touch your day some way

and I promised I’d always pray now and always

I prayed for hope, I prayed for peace

I prayed that God’s work in your life

   will never cease

I prayed for joy, I prayed for love

I prayed that he’ll enfold you in his arms

I prayed for you

Never underestimate the power of prayer

It’s greater than we can imagine,

   what a privilege to care

Taking time to think of those

known or known to him

Lifting up those souls to our life-giving King

I prayed for hope, I prayed for peace

I prayed that God’s work in your life

   will never cease

I prayed for joy, I prayed for love

I prayed that he’d enfold you in his arms

I prayed for you, I prayed for you, I prayed for you
