NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 9/25

Sometimes, Lord, I feel lost,
    wandering in a desert,
in a dry, barren land of lies and bad news,
    of defeat at the hands of self-serving greed;
a place where pure beauty
    has faded and withered;
a wasteland hungry
    and thirsting for life...

That's how I feel
    but I still believe, Lord, I trust and I hope
that the desert will once again bloom with joy
    and water gush forth in rivers and streams;
that the burning sands will become as pools
    and the thirsty ground will bubble as springs!

That's how I feel I but still believe
    that your grandeur, O Lord, will be seen by all;
        that your glory and splendor will cover the land!
That the sick will be healed, the blind again see,
    when the lame will walk and dance and run
while the deaf and the mute will hear, will sing
    the joy of the song that flows from your heart...

Then the mighty will fall from their lofty thrones
    and their riches shared out to the lowly and poor;
the meek and humble you'll lift to your arms
    where mercy and truth shall live as one
        and justice and peace shall kiss...

It's a lot, Lord, to dream of, to hope and to pray for
    but none of it's more than you've promised
so give us the faith and the grace we need
     to share with you in planting the seeds
        of integrity, justice and peace;
    in nurturing, gently, the life and the beauty
        of nature, the work of your hands;
    and in bringing to harvest a bounty to feed
        the poor and the hungry,
            the lost, the forgotten, the homeless...

Rescue us, Lord, from our self-destruction,
    from wasting the gifts of creation...

Redeem us, Lord, and restore our souls
    to the merciful goodness we find in you...

Restore us, Lord - recreate our lives -
    with the the grace that is yours to give...

Renew us, O God, and our faith in you
    and deepen our hope in your saving Word...

Protect us, Lord while we're awake
    and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

I love the way the melody and lyrics here hope and trust in the bloooming while still in the barren...

the ground is dry, the earth is still

the wind of sorrow haunts the hills

but heaven's rain is drawing near

living waters wash my fear

hope is rising, dawn is bright

beauty springs from barren night

break forth the desert, sing for joy

seeds of mercy now deploy

every dry and weary place

will bloom anew in heaven’s grace

the dust will dance, the earth will sing

the wilderness will praise the king

where death once reigned new life will grow

for our God has made it so

hope is rising, dawn is bright

beauty springs from barren night

break forth the desert, sing for joy

seeds of mercy now deploy

every dry and weary place

will bloom anew in heaven’s grace

no more sorrow, no more shame

living rivers call my name

joy is flowing, hearts restore

the thirsty drink and thirst no more

break forth the desert, sing for joy

seeds of mercy now deploy

every dry and weary place

will bloom anew in heaven’s grace

the barren land will dance again

for the Lord is moving again
