NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 10/3

Just between you and me, Lord...

I want to thank you for your patience with me,
    especially when I'm impatient with you,     

wanting and even demanding

    that you work on my schedule

        instead of yours...

 

Thank you, Lord,
    for your attentiveness to my prayer,
especially when, for long periods of time,
    I've been inattentive to you,
        and failed to come to you in prayer...

 

Thank you, Lord,
    for you faithfulness to me
even when in thoughts, words and deeds

    I've been unfaithful to you    
an thank you for your mercy and your pardon
    when I've been loose and reckless
        with all you've given me...

 

Thank you, Lord,
    for giving me another chance

        again and again and again 
and for the generous grace
    of all the new beginnings
        you offer me so freely...

 

Thank you, Lord,
    for loving me,
especially when I've failed to love
    some members of my family, 

    some coworkers and neighbors

    and folks I've grown to really hate

        just listening to the news;  
and thank you, Lord, for loving me
    when I don't love myself
and most of all for loving me
    when I turn from your face...

 

Thank you for your patience, Lord,

    and hearing every prayer I make;

thank you for your ever-faithful mercy 

    and all those second chances;

and thank you just for loving me

    with love enough to spare and share

        with everyone around me... 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
