NIGHT PRAYER: Wednesday 10/23

I've posted this prayer before but I just reworked and expanded it for another ministry I'm involved with - and thought it worth another appearance here at Night Prayer...

Too often, Lord,

I let worry and fear build walls

that keep me from your grace

and your desire to help me:

to do the next right thing,

to speak a word of truth

and to follow where you lead me...

So often, Lord,

I isolate and keep myself

from the help and gifts you offer:

when I'm trapped and lost in worry,

when I doubt myself in fear,

when I don't do what I know I need to do...

All too often, Lord,

I find a reason, a way,

to excuse myself from my responsibility:

      to take the opportunity

        do the next right thing,

to speak a word of truth,

         the truth that sets me free;

and to follow where you lead me,

         wherever that may be…

Way too often, Lord,

I'm content and I slack off:

    when worry weakens my resolve,

when old fears scuttle my best plans,

    when doubt disarms my judgment,

       my conscience and my will...

So often...   too often...  way  too often...

So, here’s my prayer this evening:

Break through, Lord - please break through!

Break through my long-held fears

   with courage, grace and power…

Break through my constant worry

with hope and trust and confidence…

Break through all my darkness

with your light at the end of my tunnel…

Break through my loneliness

with your presence, peace and consolation…

Break through my self-pity

with the truth of things, humility

         and honest self-awareness…

Break through my bad habits

with your healing touch, your saving grace

         and yet another second chance…

Break through my doubts and confusion

   with your wisdom, your word,

      and your counsel…

Break through my sleepy laziness

   with energy, stamina and spirit…

Break through my petty selfishness

   with charity, mercy

         and kindness and compassion…

Break through anything

   that keeps me from you

and help me, Lord,

to do the next right thing,

to speak a word of truth

and to follow where you lead me...

Protect me, Lord, while I’m awake

and watch over me while I sleep,

that awake I might keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peace…

Amen.

Break through, break through all my doubts
Break through, break through all my fears
Break through that I may worship You

Oh break through, break through all my pain
Break through, all my guilt and my shame
Break through, like only You can do

You are brighter than my darkest night
Stronger than my toughest fight
Just one touch from You, my King, my friend
And I'll never be the same again

Oh, break through, break through all my doubts
Break through, break through all my fears
Break through, that I may worship You, oh, God

Oh, break through, break through all my pain
Break through, all my guilt and my shame
Break through, like only You can do

You are brighter than my darkest night
Stronger than my toughest fight
Just one touch from You, my King, my friend
And I'll never be the same again

(2X)

                               (Spoken...)

Oh, break through, Oh, God, that's our prayer
Would You break through, God?

Just cry out to Him Break through Lord
Would You break through? Break through!

Would you break through? Oh, God, break through
Sing it! You are brighter…

You are brighter than my (darkest night)
Stronger than my toughest fight

Just one touch from You, my King, my friend
And I'll never be the same

(3X)

Oh, break through all my pain
Break through all my guilt and my shame
Break through like only You can do,

Oh, break through like only You can do
Oh, break through like only You can do

Oh God, this I pray…
