I seldom post purely personal items but in these days when joy is so often hard to come by - I thought I'd share a happy experience.
Joe Murphy, my cousin from Atlanta, was in Boston overnight on business. We met in town for a leisurely dinner accompanied by a crisp sauvignon blanc - and plenty of conversation catching up on things familial, societal, financial and ecclesial.
After dinner we met up with another Joe, this one surnamed Robinson, a native of Australia who now makes his home in Montana. Joe Robinson is a world class guitarist whom I've followed for sometime now on YouTube. I was thrilled when I learned he'd be doing a concert in Boston and happy to share the experience with my cousin - who's now a Robinson fan as well!
If you take the time to check out his work on his channel, you'll meet a genuine human being: a gentle, talented, truly humble artist who's as unassuming in person as he comes across online. A testimony to this is that ticketing for his concert was handled by Humanitix.
Joe performed a number of pieces I've heard him play online, including his cover of Tommy Emmanuel's arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Hearing it live actually brought tears to my eyes, so moved was I by the opportunity to be present to such artistry.
In these difficult times, a generous helping of joy all around!
