The face of Christ in Houston
(Click on the image for a larger version)
The new co-cathedral for the archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is being dedicated today. The image above is the 40 foot stained glass window depicting the resurrected Christ watching over the city of Houston. (Now that's an example of Christ putting a beautiful face on the Catholic faith!)
The Resurrection Window was created by Mellini Art Glass and Mosaics of Florence, Italy and shipped by boat to Houston. Artisans from Mellini were on hand to assist with the installation in June 2007. Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza oversaw the cathedral project. (Cardinal Daniel DiNardo is the present archbishop of Galveston-Houston.) Upon seeing the window in the new co-cathedral, Archbishop Fiorenza said, “This beautiful artwork surpasses all my expectations and is much more spiritually inspiring than any of the models we saw. We hope that when people see this magnificent Resurrection Window they will be reminded of Christ’s love for all people and his desire that we bring his love and teaching of the Gospels to everyone.”
As usual, Rocco has the report including a link to an instructive worship aid for the dedication.

Our kids watched the dedication and the Mass today. It was so exciting! Cardinal DiNardo has said Mass at our school so the kids feel like they really know him! It was a wonderful day.
