"Lord, do not hold this sin against them"
The Stoning of St. Stephen James Michaels
In those parts of the world where this Sunday's liturgy is that of the Seventh Sunday of Easter, the first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles and offers the story of the martyrdom of St. Stephen. It's not a text I'm preaching on this weekend but Deacon Greg at the Bench is beginning his homily there and has the great illustration above as a graphic on his blog.
Some of the oldest, finest art in the world imaged biblical scenes not in 1st century Mediterranean style but rather that of centuries and locales far removed. This contemporary rendering of Stephen's martyrdom is a fine addition to the history of recording this scene in fine art.
H/T to Deacon Kandra!
