Advent Choral Concert
What a fine concert in my parish on Sunday night! The choirs of Holy Family Parish, West Concord Union Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Arlington Ward combined (over 60 voices) for a beautiful and prayerful Advent Choral Concert.
Here's the program:
Hymn: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (verses 1-4)
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
Love Come Down at Christmas (Rodney Williams)
People, Look East (Russel McKinney)
Nowell from the Nativity According to St. Luke (Randall Thompson)
Before the Marvel of this Night (Carl Schalk)
Hymn: The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came
Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming (Michael Praetorius)
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence (Gustav Holst)
The Glory of the Father (Egil Hovland)
Peace Came to Earth (K. Lee Scott)
Hymn: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (verses 5-7)
Behold, A Virgin Shall Conceive (George Frideric Handel)
O Thou, That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion (George Frideric Handel)
And the Glory of the Lord (George Frideric Handel)
The first portion was performed by the LDS choir under the direction of Margaret Moore. The second portion was the joint effort of the HFP and WCUC, under the direction of James Barkovic and the Handel portion of the program included the voices of all three choirs. Margaret Hoag was the soloist for the selections from Messiah.
What a gift of time and talent for these music ministers to prepare and offer this concert even as they are getting ready for Christmas liturgies!
The concert provided the perfect end to a very snowy weekend in these parts and to the end of Gaudete Sunday 2013.
