NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 8/10

When I'm hungry, Lord,
I know it's time to eat...

When I'm thirsty, Lord,
I know it's time to drink...

When I'm lonely, Lord,
I know it's time to seek the company of friends...

When I'm tired, Lord,
I know it's time to take my rest...

I know just what to do when my body tells me:
something's missing, something's needed,
something needs to be filled...

So, give me the help I need, Lord,
to know what to do when my soul tells me:
I'm hungry and thirsting to be filled with your grace,
I'm all alone and in need of your company,
I'm tired and weak and I need your refreshment...

Help me know what to do when my soul tells me, Lord:
something's missing, something's needed,
something needs to be filled by you
who can satisfy all of my longings,
who are my best friend forever,
who fills me with the peace I truly need
- a peace no one else can give me...

As I pay attention to what my body tells me, Lord,
help me attend to all my soul would have me know,
to all my soul would have me do...

Teach me, Lord,
that in prayer you fill and feed my heart,
that in prayer I am never left alone;
that in prayer you fill me with the strength I need
to make my way from day to day...

And for the night at hand:
protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
