NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 4/12

I can only imagine
how wide, how deep,
how boundless, how sweet
is your mercy, Lord...

I can only imagine, and humbly so,
how you loved me enough
to lay down your life on the Cross:
mercy flowing from your pierced side,
from the depths of your heart
   - for me...

I can only imagine
how you love me today,
though you know I'll sin again and again:
   you stay by my side,
   prepared to forgive
with mercy that knows no end...

I can only imagine
(hope, trust and pray!)
that my life will end in your loving arms:
my sins swept away on mercy's waves,
my heart at peace, my soul at rest,
at last and for always, O Lord...

I can only imagine the wonder and awe
of seeing you face to face, Lord;
I can only imagine the homecoming joy
when the gift of your mercy gathers as one
all those I've loved in this life:
   healed and forgiven
   one in your love,
   together for ever and ever...

Protect me, Lord, as I lie awake,
imagining your infinite mercy
and watch over me when I fall asleep
and dream of the promise your mercy makes,
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

(My thanks to my friend D.S. for his email inspiring
tonight's prayer and linking me to this great song!)

I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes would see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine, yeah

Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the sun
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine, yeah,
I can only imagine...

Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine, yeah
I can only imagine...

When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine...
