My chickadee friend hangs upside down
happily harvesting pine cone seeds
on a cool October afternoon...
Then back to her nest she'll fly and
and add to her cupboard these evergreen treats,
in store for a winter's day...
There's a lesson here, Lord, some sage advice,
seeds of wisdom shared with me
by my fine, feathered, chirping friend...
There are times ahead, and coming soon,
a harder season, leaner days
and a cupboard in my soul I need to stock
with seeds of hope and promise,
treasured mem'ries to sustain me
and the grace to nest in prayer until the spring...
And if anyone should question
the source such great wisdom
I'll simply, gladly answer,
"A little bird told me..."
Amen.
