NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 8/19

I know this was on John's Facebook page, Lord,

but I can't help but think you planted it there:

    a nudge for me personally 

    and a tip for writing this day's Night Prayer: 

 

Such a simple formula, Lord,

    - some might think, "Too simple!"

But it's simplicity that draws me,

    that turns my head and, more, my heart

to you as sunlight slowly fades, as day is done

    and night comes on...

 

Such a simple prayer...

 

    To review my day with mercy's eyes

        and pardon those who've bothered me,

            annoyed, ticked off and bugged me..

    To pray for those whose needs are great,

        much greater than my own,

            those whose needs I might supply...

 

    To thank you, Lord, for all I have,

        much more than I deserve or need,

            and all of it - your gift to me...

 

Such a simple formula, Lord,

to you as sunlight slowly fades, as day is done

    and night comes on...

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

and asleep rest in your peace...

Amen. 

 

Yes, it's a simple prayer, yes,  but still a gift
