Today is the feast of Saint Augustine who wrote:

         Our hearts are restless, Lord, 

            until they rest in you...

 

Good morning, good God!

 

Today, Lord, I offer you my restless heart...

My heart is restless, Lord,

    until it rests in you...

 

My heart is anxious

    until it rests in your deep peace...

My heart grieves

    until it rests in you, my joy...

 

My heart worries

    until it rests and trusts in you...

 

My heart is marked by sin

    until it rests in your deep mercy... 

My heart is jealous

    until it rests, made whole in you...

 

My heart is tired

    until it rests in you, my strength 

 

My heart doubts

    until it rests in you, my truth...

 

My heart is wounded

    until it rests, healed by your embrace...

 

My heart waits

    until it rests in you for whom I wait...

 

So, I offer you my restless heart:

    my anxious, grieving, worried, heart,

    my sinful, jealous, tired heart,

    my doubtful, wounded, waiting heart...

 

My heart, indeed, is restless, Lord,

    until it rests in you:

in your strong and gentle, holy, loving,

    wise and wounded, healing, boundless,

        gracious and forgiving heart... 

 

I offer you my restless heart, Lord:

    help me find my rest in you...
