Pause for Prayer: TUESDAY 1/123

Truth be told, Lord,
this recipe is tucked inside a cookbook
hidden away in a cupboard
in the kitchen of my heart...

And there are days when I search and take it out
and whip up a fresh batch of worry
or a stew of beefs, a goulash of grudges
or a sour dough of fear, consternation and panic...

Then I sit in a corner, all by myself,
and I binge on the spread I've prepared:
    feeding foreboding and apprehension,
    nourishing misery, doubt and dismay...

A distressing diet, a menacing menu
    - a recipe for disaster!
It gives me a sour bellyache
    - and a headache and heartache, too...

So, I need some new recipes, Lord
    - fresh ingredients and a good meal plan -
to feed my mind, my thoughts and my soul
with hearty truth and organic grace
        sifted, blended and folded in
with hope in you and your gracious pledge
to guard and guide me always
to the happiness that your peace yields
for all who trust in your love...

Give me a taste, Lord, a hunger and thirst
    for what's sweet and nutritious,
        tasty and pleasing,
            healthful, healthful and wholesome...

Amen.
