Another priest's blog

I read a number of blogs regularly. Clerical Whispers (not to be confused with Whispers in the Loggia) is one I find interesting not only because of the good reporting there but also because it offers a look at Catholicisim from a point of view other than that of the American church. Clerical Whispers is written by a Catholic priest in Ireland who chooses not to identify himself.

Click on the link above and read the post on the forthcoming reconfiguration of parishes in the diocese of Derry in Ireland. Some of what you read there will be painfully familiar. The statistics on vocations are startling. With respect for the difficulties other local churches are experiencing, it's worth noting that the crisis in parish life is not something peculiar to the Archdiocese of Boston or even the United States.

Having trouble finding that post?
Clerical Whispers
has posted a lot of material and you may have trouble finding the piece on reconfiguration in the Diocese of Derry. If you go to Clerical Whispers
you can scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Older Posts and you'll find it there. Or, you can read it right here.

  1. I don't know if it is just the computer that I'm using, but when I am in the Whispers blog(Irish), I cannot get back to Concord Pastor blog. Have to delete and start all over!

I read a few of the entries. Quite interesting. In the latest posted entry (first one at the top)I found it rather hard to believe that nine and ten year old children are going to a family planning clinic. Come on.

The priest shortage in Derry seems dire, as it is in so many parts of the world. It seems to me it is time for the Vatican to address this in ways other than praying for vocations to the priesthood as it exists, i.e., male celibates.

  2. If you have a mac, just try clicking on your green arrow to the upper left, and it should take you back to the site you were in before.

  3. Thanks, sami, I had tried the green arrow, but for some reason it won't take me back. RE: reconfiguration in Derry, I hope Bishop Hegarty does a better job of dealing with the parishioners involved than he has on other things. See http://www.votfi.com/derry_report_06.htm
