NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 5/8

I bring to prayer tonight, Lord,

a disappointment I experienced today...

A little time has already helped

to shrink that setback to manageable proportions

and to give me a realistic perspective 

on what was so troubling

just a few hours ago

- but not all setbacks and misfortunes

are so easily managed and absorbed...  

Still, I know, Lord, that you're by my side, 

you're on my side and no obstacle, setback or calamity

is greater than your strength, your power and your desire

to rescue, save and deliver me from danger

into the peace of your embrace

and the healing of your mercy...

So I pray tonight, Lord,

for all whose disappointments loom larger than life:

   give them patience for the time they need

   to see things simply as they are...

 

But most of all, I pray for those whose burdens

are truly heavy, dispiriting and complex:

   lend your strength to assist them

   and your arms for support,

   your shoulder to lean on,

   your heart as a haven of rest from their labors...

 

Protect us, Lord, awake with our worries,

and watch over our restless sleep

that awake we may keep watch with you

and asleep, rest in your peaceful embrace...

 

Amen.
