I wrote this some years back and reworked for tonight
as my vacation ends...
One night this summer, Lord,
let me linger on the beach at dusk
to moonbathe while the sky's still blue,
before the stars come out to play
before the stars come out to play
and shadows claim the light...
One night this summer, Lord,
let me hear the tide's soft wash
once the kids have all gone home
and a gentle evening hush descends
along the silver shore...
One night this summer, Lord,
let my feet enjoy the moist cool kiss
of sand beneath, between my toes,
my steps a trail of twilight dreams,
on summer's graceful path...
One night this summer, Lord,
let a warm breeze brush my face,
reminding me how close you are,
how softly falls your touch
upon my heart, upon my soul...
One night this summer, Lord,
let moonlight shine on foamy waves
tracing lacy lines upon the shore,
their beauty teasing, leading me
to walk upon the water...
Just once this summer, Lord,
let me linger on the beach at dusk
to moonbathe while the sky's still blue,
before the stars come out to play
and shadows claim the light...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake,
watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
You might want to pray the words above again
while listening to this evening's music as background.
Tonight's music is instrumental: Clair de Lune by Debussy
