9/24/21

NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 9/24

I'm tired of all the name-calling, Lord,
sickened by the mean-spirited blather
and saddened when I find the truth
twisted beyond recognition and stretched to mean
what it certainly doesn't...

I'm tired of all this in our nation and in the Church:
on line, in print, on TV and radio
    and in conversations folks have
      from different points of view...

You call us to so much more than this, Lord:
you command us to love one another,
you bid us respect every sister and brother
            With. No. Exceptions.
for  religious belief,  moral stands or political ideology.

No matter how right we think we are,
regardless of how right we truly are,
we're never excused from being
    loving, kind civil, mature, polite,
    respectful, forgiving and peaceful...

You call us to love our neighbor:
no matter who he or she may be,
no matter what he or she may think,
no matter what he or she may say...

You call us to be holy, Lord:
    to do what is right,
    to love what is good
and to walk humbly by your side
        in all things,
        at all times,
        in all places
        with all people...

Help us hear your call to holy, Lord,
and to live the call that's ours...

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen

Because You Are Chosen by John Michael Talbot

Because you are chosen
Called to be holy
Because you are the Lord’s beloved
You must clothe yourself with kindness
With heartfelt mercy
In the meekness of humility

So bear you now with one another
And forgive as the Lord’s forgiven you
Over all these virtues
Bind them all together
In the Love of our Lord Jesus

Over all these virtues
Bind them all together
In the Love of our Lord Jesus
Over all these virtues
Bind them all together
In the Love of our Lord Jesus
