NIGHT PRAYER: Monday 2/22

I've been praying for wisdom, Lord,
the perfect wisdom of which Saint James wrote:
    the wisdom that comes down from above:
       essentially something pure,
       also peaceable, kindly and considerate;
    it is full of mercy and shows itself by doing good;
    nor is there any trace of partiality or hypocrisy in it.

First of all, I pray for your wisdom, Lord
that perfect wisdom born of your Spirit
and not of my own invention...

And I pray for a pure wisdom, Lord:
a wisdom not sullied by my prejuidce,
not bent under the weight of my bias,
not twisted to suit my own desires...

I trust, Lord,
that when your wisdom pays me a visit,
she will be known by her peaceable influence
on my thoughts and choices,
on my words and deeds,
on my desires, dreams and decisions...

When your wisdom lives in my heart
I know she will grace my relationships
with a kindness gently considerate
of others' needs and wants...

Wisdom, of her nature,
will fill my heart with mercy and compassion,
overflowing in the good I do,
as I reach out to my neighbor...

Wisdom, settled in my soul,
will cleanse me of my prejudice,
my narrow partiality and insincere hypocrisy
and render and redeem me:
a person of integrity,
graced and shaped by your divinity...

I've been praying for wisdom, Lord,
your perfect wisdom from above:
open wide my mind, my heart and soul
to welcome all her gifts
in what I think and say and choose and do...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace...

Amen.

The perfect wisdom of our God,
Revealed in all the universe:
All things created by His hand,
And held together at His command.

He knows the mysteries of the seas,
The secrets of the stars are His;
He guides the planets on their way,
And turns the earth through another day.

The perfect of timing of his ways
Along the path of rightousness,
His word a lamp unto my feet,
His Spirit teaching and guiding me.

And, oh, the wisdom of the Cross,
To save the helpless and the lost,
He chose the fool to shame the wise
And all the glory might go to God.

Oh grant me wisdom from above,
To pray for peace and cling to love,
And teach me humbly to receive
The sun and rain of Your sovereignty

Each strand of sorrow has a place
Within this tapestry of grace;
So through the trials I choose to say:
"Your perfect will, in your perfect way."

So through the trials I choose to say:
"Your perfect will in your perfect way."
