NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 6/4

We pray every day, Lord,
for your Spirit to hover
above us, around and within us...

We pray your Spirit surround and embrace,
hold, heal and fill our hearts,
especially those of our families and friends
and any who stand in need
of your Spirit's holy presence...

And tonight, on the eve of Pentecost,
we pray that your Spirit envelop the world
with peace and joy, mercy and pardon,
and hope for better times...

On this Pentecost Eve we pray that your Spirit
infuse the world and its nations,
our neighborhoods, cities and streets
with the gifts we need to make real change:
to overcome evil, overturn what's unjust,
mend what's broken, heal what's bleeding
and make and keep the peace you desire...
For all of this, Lord, we need your Spirit
and the grace of your Spirit's gifts:
we need your help, sooner than later,
O God, we need it now...
Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your people
with your blessing, healing,
peace and joy...
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep,
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Come, Holy Spirit,
from heaven shine forth
with your glorious light.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!
(Come, Holy Spirit!)

Come, Father of the poor,
come, generous Spirit,
come, light of our hearts.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

Come from the four winds, O Spirit,
come breath of God;
disperse the shadows over us,
renew and strengthen your people.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

Most kindly warming light!
Enter the inmost depths of our hearts,
for we are faithful to you.
Without your presence
we have nothing worthy, nothing pure.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

You are only comforter, Peace of the soul.
In the heat you shade us;
in our labor you refresh us,
And in trouble you are our strength.
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!

On all who put their trust in you
and receive you in faith,
shower all your gifts.
Grant that they may grow in you
and persevere to the end.
Give them lasting joy!
Veni, Sancte Spiritus!
