NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 6/16

Every time we celebrate the Eucharist we pray these words:
    Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
    graciously grant peace in our days,

    that, by the help of your mercy,

    we may be always free from sin

    and safe from all distress,

    as we await the blessed hope

    and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lord, you know better than I
    all the goodness there is in the world
and you know better than I
    how evil presses upon us on many sides:
        deliver us, we pray, from every evil,
        especially the evil of war and any violence
        that threatens human life...

Give us peace, Lord,
the peace we've not been able to fashion on our own;
    the peace whose mercy keeps us free from sin;
    the peace whose strength relieves all our distress;
    the peace that you alone can make, give and  share...

We wait for you to come again
    - this is our saving faith and hope-
we wait for you to come again
    -when time has run its course-
we wait for you to come again
but even as we wait, Lord
    we pray that you come now
        in peace, with peace, for peace
            in our hearts and in our world...

Give us peace, Lord,
    give us peace, Lord,
        give us peace, O Lord, we pray!

Protect us, Lord while we're awake,
watch over us while we sleep,
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
