On Sundays, Night Prayer will focus on an element from the day's celebration of Mass. Tonight we reflect on the cry of those in the gospel story who found themselves locked out: "Lord, open the door for us!" After a short prayer, tonight's musical selection will give voice to these welcome words: "God will open a door for us..."
Too often, Lord, I can't find the key
to the door to my heart's desire...
And sometimes I'm just afraid to open
the unlocked door I'm facing...
Or too many doors invite me, "Come in!"
and I don't know which one I should choose...
Some days, Lord, I knock but it seems
my knock on your door goes unanswered...
I seek the door that opens to you, Lord,
to you, your mercy, your peace...
So, tonight I pray:
hear me when I knock on your door,
open the door to my heart's desire,
open my door to you and your mercy,
open the door that leads to your peace,
open the door and welcome me in
to where I'll be at home with you...
Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep rest in your peace...
Amen.
In looking for tonight's music I discovered the work of Pepper Choplin - I'm sure we'll be hearing more from him!

God will open a door...
The Spirit draws us to it,
with faith we walk through it
as we follow the Lord
through the open door...
God will open a door...
The Spirit draws us to it,
with faith we walk through it
as we follow the Lord
through the open door...
So ask, it shall be given to you,
seek and you shall find,
knock it shall be opened unto to you...
So ask, it shall be given to you,
seek and you shall find,
knock it shall be opened unto to you...
Now, God is calling, calling us on,
let us leave behind our waiting,
we'll go forward celebrating,
there are blessings in store
through the open door...
God will open the door,
let us follow the Lord
through the open door...
