When I open my eyes and look about,
unlocking the doors of my heart and soul,
when I set my imagination free,
when I seek you, Lord, that's when I find
your glory alive in the commonplace,
your beauty hidden in brambles and brush,
traces of wisdom's fine design
etched in limbs, barren and dry...
I can find your fingerprints, fresh and warm
on glaciers, in gardens,
in deserts and deltas
on topsoil and tundra,
on willows and weeds...
The whole of creation reveals you, Lord,
dying and budding,
decaying and blooming,
spent and spreading,
fading and flowering,
dying and rising
in every place on the face of earth
and every time I open my eyes,
unlocking the doors of my heart and soul
to set my imagination free to seek you, Lord,
in all the places you patiently wait
in the world that's all around me...
Amen.
With silent envy and love. Tom Connors
