Flowers on Mothers Day

African violets were my mother's favorite house plant so I always think of them on the second Sunday in May.  My mother's been gone 30 years now but...

I bought an African violet for Mothers Day.
No, it's not for my mom, it's for me:
    to remind me of her
        and her simple, natural beauty;
    of how she tenderly, quietly cared
        - yes, for her violets around the house -
    but ever much more for her family,
        my dad, my sister, my brother and me...

I remember her beauty and loving care
    and I pray her violets remind me, Lord,
to tenderly serve and gently love
    all those you entrust to my care,
        to love as I have been loved...

Amen.

Here's an instrumental titled African Violet by pianist Arden Forest.  I hope it might provide some background for prayerfully remembering what flowers might be important to you on Mothers Day...
