African violets were my mother's favorite house plant so I always think of them on the second Sunday in May. My mother's been gone 30 years now but...
I bought an African violet for Mothers Day.
No, it's not for my mom, it's for me:
to remind me of her
and her simple, natural beauty;
of how she tenderly, quietly cared
- yes, for her violets around the house -
but ever much more for her family,
my dad, my sister, my brother and me...
I remember her beauty and loving care
and I pray her violets remind me, Lord,
to tenderly serve and gently love
all those you entrust to my care,
to love as I have been loved...
