NIGHT PRAYER: Sunday 6/23

On Sundays, Night Prayer takes its lead from an element of the day's liturgy.  For this evening's reflection, you'll want to refresh your memory of the story in today's gospel and perhaps my homily as well...

When I'm lost in a sea of problems, Lord, 

 help me trust that you're always right there,

 right in the midst of all my troubles,

 waiting to rescue and save me...

 

When I’m shaken by waves of anxiety, Lord,

 help me trust that you're always right there, 

 right in the midst of all my fears,

 with your grace to calm the waters…

 

When confusion’s about to capsize my boat

 help me know that you're always right there, Lord,

 right  in the midst of all my thoughts

 with your wisdom to chart my course…

 

When I’m sinking and drowning in tears, Lord,

 help me know that you're always right there

 right in the midst of my sorrow and grief

 with your healing to reach and lift me up…

 

When I'm all by myself, lost at sea, Lord,

 help me trust that you're always right there,

 right in the midst of my loneliness,

 with your presence and peace to embrace me...

 

When the wind’s gone out of my sails, Lord,

 help me trust that you're always right there,

 right in the midst of my doldrums

 with the breath of your Spirit to fill me…

 

And when I feel you’ve forgotten me, Lord,

 help me trust that you’re always right there

 - even asleep in the stern of my boat -

 ever ready to wake and captain my soul…

 

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
