NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 7/6

I spent some time this past week, Lord,
    talkin', textin',  listenin' to folks
who've lost a friend, a loved one,
and found an empty place in their hearts...

We all have those places, Lord:
those wounds, those voids that once were filled
        with laughter and joy,
        affection and friendship,
        intimacy, touch and hugs...

Oh, the people we loved, Lord,
    the people we still love,
the people we miss and long for,
the people we cried and laughed with,
the people who made life whole...

People who filled in our emptiness,
who healed our hurts and calmed our fears,
who carried our burdens and lightened our load,
    who turned frowns into smiles,
whose presence was grace, a gift of peace…

Be with us, Lord, on a warm summer's eve
when our hearts are quiet with memories,
when we we'd love to hear just one more time
a word of love from the ones we miss...

Be with us, Lord, and deepen our faith
in your heart's desire to bring us all home
and gather us into you loving arms
where you've saved a place for each of us, Lord,
close by our loved ones already with you...

Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me:
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord,
for they rest from their labors.
Even so says the Spirit.

Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine:
Light eternal shine upon them, Lord, we pray:
Cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
With your saints ever dwelling, for your mercy’s sake,

Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine,
May they rest in peace. Grant them rest eternal, Lord,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
and may light perpetual shine upon them.
