Morning Coffee by George Mendoza |
Good morning, good God!
This morning, Lord,
I offer you the last four days of January,
the twenty-eight days of February,
the month of March
and as much of April as might be required
before we feel, before we smell,
before we have at least a hint
that spring is on its way...
The older I get, Lord,
the more I mind,
the more I'm bothered by,
the more I disdain
the more I just can't stand
the long days, frost and cold,
the slippery sidewalks underfoot,
the seemingly endless season
of waiting for something better,
longing for anything warmer,
aching for days full of promise,
sunlight and life...
And yet,
the older I get, Lord,
the more I know,
the more I concede,
the more I trust,
the more I believe
that my waiting, longing and aching
are all for you:
for the grace of your mercy,
the warmth of your presence
and your promise of of light
and life everlasting...
So, I offer you the next eleven weeks, Lord:
time for me to sit by your side,
to renew our friendship,
to deepen my faith
and to open myself, mind, heart and soul,
in this season of waiting
and longing and aching
for youin the days of my life...
Amen.
