I'm often asked to give the Invocation and Benediction at Concord's Memorial Day program. You've read the text I use for the Invocation. This year I wrote a new prayer for the Benediction which I share with you here:
-->
BENEDICTION
Blessed are you, God of all
time:
for the life that is ours
- is your gift to us.
Blessed are you, God of all
wisdom:
for the liberty we delight
in
–is your gift to us.
Blessed are you, God of all
joy,
for the happiness we pursue
– is your gift to us.
Blessed are you, O God
for these inalienable rights
with which you, our Creator,
have endowed us.
Blessed are you, O God,
for all that is ours:
for our independence,
freedom and liberty,
and for every right that is
ours to enjoy,
for each is your gift to us,
from
your hand to our hands,
from
your heart to ours.
May our gratitude for your
blessings
and our love for this nation
make us worthy of all your
gifts.
Give us courage and strength:
to
protect what you have given us,
to
share it freely with others
and
to defend with your wisdom
this
land of the free, this home of the brave.
Blessed are you, O God,
for every freedom we prize
is indeed your gift to us.
Amen.
