I was thinking today, Lord, about your omniscience:
You. Know. Everything.
You know who'll win on Friday night
and you know who'll win the AL pennant
and you know who'll play and who'll win
the 2021 World Series...
And you know who'll run
and who'll be elected president in 2024...
You know when and where
the next hurricane, tornado, forest fire or flood
will upend and take people's lives and homes...
(And I suppose you know, or at least understand, why...)
You know who will get sick and who will be cured,
who will succumb and who will survive
and when the pandemic will come to an end...
You know every soul's secrets, its sorrows and joys,
every heart's hopes, its schemes and its dreams,
everyone's faith and everyone's doubts,
all of our wounds and the healing we need...
You know the real love that each of us longs for
and the love that each of us so wants to share,
the love that first was your love for us,
the only love, Lord, that never fails...
You know everything, Lord, from the inside out:
you've always known what now you know
and you already know what's yet to be:
in principio, nunc et semper,
in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.
Open our minds, our hearts and our souls
and give us a share of your wisdom and counsel,
your insight and knowledge,
your grasp, your vision, your ken of all things...
Strengthen our faith when we don't understand, Lord,
fill in some blanks when we're lost and confused,
help us accept that you know more than we do
and help us to trust that you always know best...
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
