NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 6/9

It's been a tearful path to walk, Lord, since April 25,
when the snow my nephew skied and loved
enveloped him with jealous arms
and stole him from our own:
he's lost to our hugs
but he lives forever
in our hearts...

You've walked that tearful path with us,
each halting step along the way:
you let us set the pace
and with loving patience
stayed right by our side...

Then yesterday you called us to your Table
and with Easter light and water,
with a garment of baptismal grace,
we blessed, we prayed, we sang, we wept,
we listened to your Word assure us:
you have called our Michael home
to where, one day, we hope and pray
we'll all be one again with him,
in the everlasting arms of your embrace...

Nourished at your Table
by your sacrament most holy,
we made our way to bury him,
to sing and bid a last farewell...

Michael's forever in your care, Lord
so strengthen us in faith
and in our hope and trust
that one day all our tears will cease
and only peace and joy
will fill our hearts
forevermore...

Protect us, Lord while we're awake
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

Somehow, this lullaby seems the best choice
for tonight's evening song:
for Michael, for his family and friends, for us all...

Sleep in peace.   Wake in joy.    Always know that I am loved.
I sleep in peace.  I wake in joy.  I always know that I am loved.
Today I live in gratitude.  Today I give my love.
And tonight when I lay my head to rest, I give thanks, I give thanks.

Sleep in peace.  Wake in joy.  Always know that I am safe.
Sleep in peace.  Wake in joy.  Always know that I am safe.
Each day I wake is a miracle.  Each day is a precious gift.
I count my blessings and feel such grace.  I give thanks. I give thanks.

I sleep in peace.  I wake in joy.  I always know that all is well.
I sleep in peace.  I wake in joy.  I always know that all is well.

I sleep in peace.  Wake in joy.  Always know that I am loved.
Sleep in peace.    Wake in joy.  Always know that I am loved.

Sleep in peace.  Wake in joy.  Always know that I am safe.
Sleep in peace.  Wake in joy.  I always know that I am safe.

I sleep in peace.  I wake in joy.  I always know that all is well.
I sleep in peace.  I wake in joy.  I always know that all is well.
