NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 7/23

I stumble, Lord - a lot!

I bend under pressure
    and trip over my own mistakes...

I lose my balance
    - fall flat on my face...

And sometimes I'm a stumbling block for others, 

    folks whose innocent paths cross mine...

And still, you never fail to help me,
   reaching out to lift me up,
       to dust me off, reboot my day
          and help me on my way...

So, when I'm hard pressed, Lord,
   and get in my own way...

 
When I'm not steady on my feet
   and can't seem to keep my balance...

When I'm stuck in a rut or hit a pothole

    - or when I'M the obstacle

        impeding my neighbor's way...

 
Then remind me that you're there, Lord,

    ready to assist me;
make strong and sure and firm my steps
    or catch me as I fall;
and never let my foot

    (my thoughtless speech or clumsy deeds)

obstruct another's journey

    or slow me on my own

as we make our way together

    home to you and to your peace...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake

    and watch over me while I sleep

that awake, I might keep watch with you

    and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.
